Current Actions:

Protect our Right to Vote

HB 257 would streamline voter registration in Alabama. After passage, all eligible individuals would be automatically registered to vote through information they routinely share with government agencies (the information provided on a person’s driver’s license application, for example). Automatic voter registration would boost civic engagement, save Alabama $2 million a year, and ensure election security.

Why do we need your address? This letter writing campaign uses your address to determine who represents you and then sends the letter to the correct senator and representative. We will not provide your address or use your address for anything! This ensures that our representatives know we are credible, young voters (or almost voters) in their districts. The Action Network’s Privacy Policy is here. They will not sell or use your information for other purposes than the express purpose of the campaign.

Support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act

YVBA is partnering with the Birmingham CCL to support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act. Sign our letter to help pass HR 2307, which would implement a federal carbon price, allowing U.S. businesses to avoid paying Europe’s border tariff and remain internationally competitive. By 2050, this policy could save Americans over $800 billion each year in economic losses, or over $6,000 per household. Not to mention, a carbon price will save 4.5 million American lives over the next 50 years by restoring clean air across the country.

Repeal the HFOA

Repeal the Habitual Felony Offender Act by encouraging your legislators to pass HB 107

Alabama’s HFOA allows prior convictions committed when individuals were less than 18, as well as low-level drug and property crimes, to be used for enhancement purposes. As a result, nearly 5,600 individuals in Alabama are serving long prison sentences enhanced by the HFOA, including more than 1,600 lifers. Of these, 239 will die in prison unless the law is changed.
